Figure 1 is a map of the locations of ART clinics in the United States and Puerto Rico, 2009.
There are five statistics listed at the bottom of the map:
- Number of ART clinics in the United States in 2009: 484
- Number of ART clinics that submitted data in 2009: 441
- Number of ART cycles reported in 2009: 146,244. Note: This number does not include 12 cycles in which a new treatment procedure was being evaluated (see Figure 2).
- Number of live-birth deliveries resulting from ART cycles started in 2009: 45,870
- Number of infants born as a result of ART cycles performed in 2009: 60,190
Figure 2: Types of ART Cycles—United States, 2009.
Figure 2 is a pie chart representing the types of ART cycles in the United States, 2009. Note: Total does not equal 100% due to rounding.

Figure 4 is a bar graph representing the types of ART cycles by age group in the United States, 2009.
- Age <35, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 97%. Of these nondonor cycles, 75% were fresh nondonor and 22% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 3%. Of these donor cycles, 2% were fresh donor and 1% was frozen donor.
- Age 35–37, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 94%. Of these nondonor cycles, 73% were fresh nondonor and 21% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 6%. Of these donor cycles, 4% were fresh donor and 2% were frozen donor.
- Age 38–40, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 90%. Of these nondonor cycles, 74% were fresh nondonor and 16% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 10%. Of these donor cycles, 7% were fresh donor and 3% were frozen donor.
- Age 41–42, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 80%. Of these nondonor cycles, 69% were fresh nondonor and 11% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 20%. Of these donor cycles, 13% were fresh donor and 7% were frozen donor.
- Age 43–44, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 65%. Of these nondonor cycles, 56% were fresh nondonor and 9% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 36%. Of these donor cycles, 23% were fresh donor and 13% were frozen donor. Note: Total does not equal 100% do to rounding.
- Age >44, Percentage of total nondonor cycles, 27%. Of these nondonor cycles, 21% were fresh nondonor and 6% were frozen nondonor. Percentage of total donor cycles, 73%. Of these donor cycles, 41% were fresh donor and 32% were frozen donor.
Figure 5: Percentages of ART Cycles That Resulted in Live Births, by Type of ART and Clinic Size—United States, 2009.
Figure 5 is a bar graph representing percentages of ART cycles that resulted in live births by type of ART and clinic size in the United States, 2009. Note: Clinic size is based on the number of ART cycles performed in 2009.
- Clinic size: <90 cycles, Fresh nondonor 29.3%, Frozen nondonor 25.1%, Fresh donor 46.6%, Frozen donor 27.5%
- Clinic size: 90–169 cycles, Fresh nondonor 30.7%, Frozen nondonor 25.0%, Fresh donor 49.1%, Frozen donor 34.0%
