Fallen Heroes Art Quilt Goes on Display in Indiana
Melanie Thompson Smith stands at the Lost Heroes Art Quilt and points to the square commemorating her late son, U.S. Marine Corps. Cpl. Lance Thompson, at the Indiana Capitol building in Indianapolis, Oct. 25, 2010. The quilt honors the memory of the American men and women who have lost their lives since 9/11 in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are 50 squares on the quilt, each with a fallen hero, one from each state. Smith’s son, killed in action in Al Anbar province, Iraq, Nov. 15, 2004, represents Indiana.

National Guardsmen Return Home From Afghanistan

The unit, made up of soldiers from Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas National Guards, specializes in training Afghan farmers in modern farming techniques.
