Mullen Visits Ramadi, Iraq
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Navy Adm. Michael G. Mullen speaks with the leadership of Task Force 1/8 during a visit to the Marines forward deployed in Ramadi, Iraq, Dec. 19, 2007. After receiving the briefing, Mullen took a walking tour of the once volatile city to get a closer perspective on the gains being made in the Al-Anbar provincial city, and was greeted warmly by the locals.

Last Regional Hospital Opens in Afghanistan
A soldier from the Afghan National Army stands security watch while preparations are made to formally open a new ANA hospital, Dec. 15, 2007. The $5 million facility in Kandahar is the last of four regional hospitals to be built for the ANA by the coalition. It will serve as a trauma center, and in late 2008 it will expand from 50 to 100 beds.

Chairman Continues Holiday Tour
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Navy Adm. Michael G. Mullen introduces Miss USA Rachel Smith during the USO Holiday Tour stop in Kuwait, Dec. 18, 2007. Mullen also was joined by comedians Lewis Black and Robin Williams, seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and award-winning recording artist Kid Rock. The group will make 15 stops in seven countries to thank troops for their sacrifice and service.

Operation Deep Freeze
An LC-130 Hercules is unloaded on the annual sea ice runway near McMurdo Station, Antarctica Nov. 27, 2007, during Operation Deep Freeze. Ski-equipped LC-130s, crews and support personnel from the New York Air National Guard's 109th Airlift Wing are supporting the 13th Air Force-led Joint Task Force Support Forces Antarctica, Operation Deep Freeze. Operation Deep Freeze is a unique joint and total force mission that has supported the National Science Foundation and U.S. Antarctic Program that began in 1955.

Training at Camp Atterbury
Brig. Gen. Blake E. Williams, deputy commander for First Army East, visits with mobilizing solders of the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Indiana Army National Guard at Camp Atterbury, Ind. The Soldiers are being trained by First Army Operation Warrior Trainers of the 205th Infantry Brigade. More than 3,400 will take part in the state’s largest deployment efforts to Iraq. The brigade is scheduled to ship out from Fort Stewart, Ga., in January as part of their scheduled deployment.

Mike Mullen was joined by comedians Lewis Black and Robin Williams, and Miss USA Rachel Smith in the 15-stop, seven-country tour thanking forward deployed troops for their sacrifice and service.
