BLM New Media Guide (Last Update: 5/7/2012)
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation.
The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
The BLM uses new media tools to connect you, the American public, with those public lands and to keep you informed about activities on public lands.
In this online new media guide, you will find a regularly-updated directory of new media tools that will connect you with public lands and resources across the country.
Also in this guide, you can read about our new media standards and policies as they support the four goals of the BLM External New Media Strategy. These standards and policies are subject to change as new tools are authorized or best practices emerge.
|
GOAL 1 | The BLM will use new media to become a more transparent agency and deliver rich, meaningful content. |
