If you want to apply for retirement or spouse's benefits, you must be at least 61 years and 9 months old and want your benefits to start no more than four months in the future.Note: If you are almost 65, your application for benefits will include Medicare.

If you are almost 65 but you don't want your retirement benefits to start, you can just apply online for Medicare. -

When you apply for any type of disability benefits, we need information about your medical, work, and education history to help us decide if you are disabled. -
If your application for disability benefits was denied recently for medical reasons, you can request an appeal or continue working on an appeal.
NOTE:
You cannot apply online for survivors benefits. Since every person's situation is different, how you apply depends on whether you are already receiving Social Security benefits.
