10/6/2011 - MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. (AFNS) -- Officials at the Air Force Culture and Language Center are now accepting applications for the fall session of the "Introduction to Culture" course.

Enrollment began Oct. 6 and is limited to 750 students. Class begins Oct. 20 and continues through Jan. 24, 2012.

ITC is an online, self-paced course designed to improve enlisted Airmen's cross-cultural competence, officials said. The course explores subjects such as elements of culture, family relationships, religion, belief systems, sports and other important cultural domains.

This general education course fulfills three resident hours of either social science or program elective credit required for CCAF degrees, program officials said. Only enlisted Airmen who are active duty, Air Force Reserve or Air National Guard and who are eligible to pursue a degree in the Community College of the Air Force program may take the course.

The course, including all instructional material, is provided at no cost, and delivered via the Air University's web-based Blackboard Learning Management System, officials said. "Introduction to Culture" will be offered again in March 2012, with registration beginning in February 2012. For the latest information on courses and other resources, see the AFCLC's Web site at www.culture.af.mil.

The AFCLC was founded at Air University in April 2006 as the result of the Air Force chief of staff's desire to improve Airmen's cross-cultural competence by developing their cultural, regional, foreign language and negotiation abilities. The AFCLC's team of military and civilian members work together to provide the Air Force with a "one-stop shop" for language, region and culture capabilities.
