With President Obama, and on behalf of the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Croatia as you celebrate your National Day on June 25. The United States and Croatia have built an enduring friendship and a vibrant partnership based on our shared values and mutual interests. On this occasion, we celebrate and reaffirm the bonds between our countries.

Croatia has made remarkable progress since gaining independence, both in building democracy at home and contributing to regional and global security. The United States is proud to count Croatia as an ally in NATO, and we appreciate Croatia’s vital contributions to the ISAF mission in Afghanistan. We support Croatian membership in the European Union and look forward to working together as partners on a wide range of issues and policies in the coming years.

I wish the Croatian people the very best as we continue working to advance the cause of peace, security, and prosperity in the 21st century.
