MOBILE6 Vehicle Emission Modeling Software

This Web page provides the MOBILE6 Vehicle Emission Modeling Software and related presentations and training resources. MOBILE6 is an emission factor model for predicting gram per mile emissions of Hydrocarbons (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Particulate Matter (PM), and toxics from cars, trucks, and motorcycles under various conditions. MOBILE6 has been replaced by MOVES as EPA’s official model for estimating emissions from cars, trucks and motorcycles. Information about MOVES, including policy guidance on when it must be used for State Implementation Plans and transportation conformity determinations is available here.

MOBILE6 Model

MOBILE62.ZIP -- This zipped file allows users to download the MOBILE6.2 model, including HC, CO, NOx, PM air toxics, user guide, supporting documentation, a "frequently asked questions" list, source code, and sample input and output files. This file includes the updated PM emission factors for heavy duty diesel vehicles. The file can be unzipped with standard software such as WinZip. A "read-me" file explains the next steps for setting up and using the model. (March 2006) 3.4M ZIP (Free zip software is available at http://www.download.com ) If you already have the current MOBILE6 model, but need the new PM emission factors, you can download and use just the updated PM emission factors here. MOBILE6 will not work on a 64 bit computer. If you have a 64 bit computer and need to use MOBILE6, try using the 32 bit emulation mode in Windows7.

MOBILE6.2 Policy Guidance (PDF) (13 pp, 672K, February 24, 2004) This guidance clarifies how and when the current version of MOBILE6.2 can be used for SIPs and conformity purposes.

Technical Description of the Toxics Module for MOBILE6.2 and Guidance on Its Use for Emission Inventory Preparation - This document describes the methodology used to estimate air toxic emission rates in the toxics module for MOBILE6.2, describes the sources of data used, and provides users with guidance on how to obtain data required as input parameters for the model. The document also compares some MOBILE6.2 results to results using a previous highway mobile source toxics emission factor model, MOBTOX5b.

MOBILE6 Training

EPA has developed a variety of training materials for MOBILE6 users. Also see the MOBILE6 user guide above.

- PowerPoint presentation given on the first day of the course (PDF) (195 pp, 2.4MB). This is a basic introduction to on-road emissions modeling and MOBILE6. It can serve as a stand-alone class for managers and others who will not perform analyses using the model.
