Collections/Special Forest Products

With limited exceptions, the removal of any monument features is not allowed. Removal of features includes, but is not limited to, the collection of any monument resources such as rocks, minerals, petrified wood, fossils, archaeological and cultural items, plants and parts of plants, fish and animals not regulated by Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW), insects or other invertebrate animals, bones, waste, and other products from animals. Exceptions include collections authorized by permit; collection of fruits, nuts, berries, or mushrooms for personal use; collection of certain natural materials by Native Americans under BLM permit; collection of antlers or horns as provided by ODFW regulations; and wood for campfires.

Know Before You Go

  • Christmas tree cutting is not allowed within the monument.
  • Collection of fruits, nuts, berries, or mushrooms for non-commercial personal use is limited to one gallon per day.
  • Collection of dead and down wood, for immediate use in campfires is permitted only where campfires are allowed.
  • Hunting and fishing is regulated by the State of Oregon.
