Project Name: Integrated Nutrition M&E System

Background

Malnutrition remains a major public health concern in Uganda. Data from the previous three Demographic Health Surveys (DHS) in Uganda show that nutrition indicators have not improved much over the past 15 years. Uganda is implementing several interventions to improve the nutritional status of its population. Programs include promoting breastfeeding and dietary diversification; carrying out periodic vitamin A supplementation among children 6- 59 months and post partum mothers; providing iron and folic acid supplementation during pregnancy; introducing zinc supplementation for diarrhea treatment; and implementing several food fortification programs.¹

Purpose

IMMPaCt is working with USAID's Micronutrient and Child Blindness Project (http://www.a2zproject.org/ ) on designing and implementing an integrated monitoring and evaluation system for the current micronutrient interventions (listed above) being implemented in Uganda. This system will strengthen national capacity to provide reliable, timely and accurate integrated nutrition information

Future Plans

• CDC and USAID's A2Z Micronutrient program will continue to work on the integrated monitoring system, and will look for additional global partners for the project.
• Addition of a micronutrient module to the proposed DHS
