Iowa State University to Study Topeka Shiner Habitats
Restored by the Rock Island, IL Ecological Services Field Office

The Rock Island, IL Ecological Services Field Office has restored a group of floodplain wetlands known as oxbows along tributaries of the North Raccoon River in central Iowa. These wetlands are used by the Topeka shiner, a federally listed endangered minnow. Researchers from the Iowa State University is studying the use of the restored wetlands versus wetlands that have not been restored to better understand those wetland features that benefit the species.
