Assistant Secretary Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana to Keynote New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages' Annual Conference

U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana will deliver a plenary keynote address at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages’ 40th annual conference in Albany, N.Y. Her remarks will focus on the Administration’s current initiatives and innovations in addressing the academic challenges of English language learners. In addition, Dr. Meléndez de Santa Ana will discuss the Department’s “Blueprint for Reform: Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education (ESEA)” and its commitment to improving educational opportunities and resources for English learners.

The New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages conference will take place Friday-Saturday, Nov. 5-6. The nonprofit association consists of professionals engaged in enhancing the education of English language learners in New York State.
