U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education to Deliver Remarks on School Turnarounds in Los Angeles

U.S. Assistant Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana will give welcoming remarks at WestEd’s school turnaround conference, entitled “Leading Successful School Turnarounds: Learning from Research and Practice.” Meléndez de Santa Ana will discuss the Department’s $4 billion School Improvement Grant program and the importance of effective leadership from the school, district and state levels in successfully implementing grant funding. The audience will include district and school leaders receiving School Improvement Grants, as well as state education agency staff, union representatives and external providers supporting school turnaround efforts in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah. The conference will also include breakout sessions for participants and a district superintendents’ panel.
