The last in a series of National Conversations on English Learner Education will be hosted by senior officials from the U.S. Department of Education on Monday and Tuesday in New York City and Charlotte, N.C. Rosalinda B. Barrera, assistant deputy secretary and director of the Office of English Language Acquisition, and Juan Sepúlveda, executive director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, will host a meeting in New York City. At the same time, Joanne Urrutia, deputy director the Office of English Language Acquisition, and Jose Rico, deputy director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, will lead a meeting in Charlotte, N.C.

Each of the two-day conversations will bring senior department officials together with teachers, parents, administrators, community organizations, researchers and policy makers to hear what's working and how instruction can be improved for students with limited English skills. Both sessions will be connected by video streamed online. The purpose of the gatherings is to share best practices, challenges and recommendations for educating English language learners. Input from the meetings will help guide policy development for limited English proficient students. The other sets of National Conversations on English Learner Education meetings were held Feb. 10-11 in Dallas and Chicago and Mar. 7-8 in Los Angeles and Seattle.
