Is it safe for me to give my pet pain relief products approved for use in humans such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen sodium?
No. Human approved pain-relief products are not good alternatives to approved veterinary pain-relief products. Many drugs approved for humans are toxic to animals. Even veterinary drug products approved for one species, such as dogs, may be toxic to another species, such as cats. Always consult your veterinarian for the appropriate medication for your pet.
The use of an approved animal product is always preferable because FDA has reviewed data establishing the safety and effectiveness of the animal product for its labeled use.
