What does a recall mean for an implanted device?

Recalls are actions taken by a firm to remove a product from the market. Recalls of medical devices may be more complex if the device has been placed inside (implanted in) a patient. If an implanted medical device is recalled, the patient should talk to his or her doctor before making any medical decisions, including whether to have the recalled implant removed.
