BACKGROUND:

Mr. Hameed is a behind the scenes advisor to many top executives and owners of various size organizations ranging from two-man shops with revenues of $100,000 annually to billion-dollar national companies. Currently, his specialty is consulting for private and government agencies regarding workforce diversity and contractor participation opportunities in San Diego County. Mr. Hameed’s testimonials through the years have been provided to City and State Governmental agencies with a history spanning five San Diego mayors, six City Councilmen from his district, and four Equal Employment Opportunity Contracting Managers. He is a respected speaker at national and local events. Mr. Hameed is founder and president of the Black Contractors Association of San Diego, Inc. (established in 1982), with present membership of 350 business owners. The association operates more as a focus group addressing the concerns of “Mom and Pop” builders emerging into the mainstream of the local building industry. Particularly, business concerns not previously addressed by trade unions or government authorities. Mr. Hameed worked diligently to establish the first African-American State Certified Apprenticeship Program in the United States as the Inner-City Community Unilateral Apprenticeship Committee designed to train inner-city “at-risk” youth. After securing a $1.5 million dollar grant from the Community Development Block Program, Mr. Hameed completed construction on a 10,000 square foot Apprentice Center for teaching inner-city youth. One of the first apprentices from this program, Charles A. Black Jr., graduated with his California State Certified Journeyman Carpenter Certificate. Under his leadership BCA was awarded over $2.1 million dollars in Youthbuild training grants FY2001-2009 in leading 120 youth to construct 9 homes from the ground up and one of them was for homeless youths. In 2008 Hameed founded the National Black Contractors Association of America with 17 chapters in 5 states.

36 years of construction experience, as a master builder, foreman, superintendent, construction manager, and project manager of large commercial developments; such as public buildings, churches, custom homes, remodeling, on site and off site construction, estimating, blue print reading, foundations, job cost control and underground wet and dry utilities, within a critical path.

Abdur-Rahim Hameed is also the publisher of the National Black Contractors Association Cornerstone Magazine, which is published on an annual base to report national, state and local stories on the progress and concerns of African Americans, women, small businesses and industry relationships between the government and private industry.

Award Winning Noted As the Best

Mr. Hameed has received numerous honors including: The African-American Organizing Project Builders Award, Special Recognition Award from the National Association of Minority Contractors, Special Commendation from the City of San Diego, was named by San Diego Magazine as one of the “50 People to Watch” in 1996 and the City of San Diego named November 18th as “Abdur-Rahim Hameed Day”. He has also received proclamations from the Mayor of San Diego and the County Board of Supervisors. He is also a member of the “NATIONAL REGISTER’S WHO’S WHO IN EXECUTIVES & PROFESSIONALS 2001 –2002 registered at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. Under the leadership of Hameed BCA received Minority Business Advocate of the Year 2001 from the Greater San Diego Business Development Council and the Founder of Black Men United.
