GSA Seeks Ideas to Develop Miami Courthouse
Agency continues aggressive push to save taxpayer dollars with redevelopment of Dyer Courthouse
MIAMI – Today, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) issued a Request for Information (RFI) concerning the redevelopment of the David W. Dyer Federal Courthouse in Miami, Florida.
An RFI is a business tool used to gather information about a project that will inform decision-making. Ideas provided in response to the RFI will assist GSA in developing a long-term strategy regarding the future use of the excess property. The RFI is posted on FedBizOpps.gov through October 1, 2012.
This initiative is the latest in the agency’s ongoing effort to dispose of excess properties, making more efficient use of the government’s real estate assets and saving taxpayer dollars. Over the past year, the federal government has sold and transferred 97 excess properties valued at $82 million.
“We are looking forward to receiving solid ideas from the development community,” said Shyam Reddy, Regional Administrator of GSA’s Southeast Sunbelt Region. “These responses will help GSA proceed with a strong repositioning strategy for the Dyer Courthouse. We stand firm behind our commitment to ensuring the property is repurposed in a way that benefits the local community and extracts the highest return to the American taxpayer.”
The beautifully preserved Spanish-Mediterranean Revival was constructed in 1933 and sits on 1.6 acres in the Miami Federal Justice Center. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places and until 2008, the building was occupied by the Federal Judiciary. With the recent construction of the new Wilkie D. Ferguson U.S. Courthouse, tenants of the Dyer building relocated to the newly constructed courthouse. FAS Employee Saves Air Force Millions on Procurement
GSA Region 4, Customer Service Director (CSD), Debbie Nicoletti helped the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex (WR-ALC) at Robins AFB, GA, obtain professional, technical support services to manage and maintain complex Legacy Software Applications. CSD Nicoletti's efforts helped the Air Force customer save approximately $20M.
Tennessee Courthouse Earns Silver LEED certification
The James H. Quillen U.S. Courthouse recently achieved "Silver" Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for existing buildings from the U.S. Green Building Council. The Greeneville, Tennessee courthouse built in 2000, was outfitted with LED lighting, water conservation, rain water re-capture, waste diversion, and other conversation features, helping it meet the rigorous sustainability standards established by the Council. The Southeast-Sunbelt Region salutes Property Manager Catherine Brasher for leading the effort toward certification.
Regional Administrator Reddy touts GSA mission during Small Business Week
GSA Regional Administrator Shyam Reddy recently served as a luncheon speaker at the Moving Your Business Forward – Get Down to Business event in Atlanta. Reddy emphasized GSA’s role in working with small business to make government work better for the American people. He specifically highlighted how small businesses are helping GSA save taxpayer dollars, advance sustainability and make government more open, accessible and transparent.
