Bureau of International Information Programs (IIP) Coordinator Dawn L. McCall is in Mexico City May 17 to meet with the Embassy’s Public Affairs Section and the staff of the Benjamin Franklin Library.
Founded in 1942, the Benjamin Franklin Library -- “La Franklin” -- was the first U.S. library founded overseas, with assistance from the American Library Association. Today the library has 31,000 volumes focusing on American Culture, English teaching, librarianship and bilateral relations in Mexico. Cultural programs include English conversation clubs, storytime sessions, and conferences with U. S. speakers.
Coordinator McCall's discussions will focus on the Library's programs and ways to ensure its continued success as it celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. She will also discuss closer collaboration with the Public Affairs Section, including use of IIP resources and tools to support cultural and information programs that advance mission public diplomacy goals.
