Rear Admiral Wagner assumed the duties of commander, Navy Medicine East and commander, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth on Sept. 22, 2011. She continues her roles as chief, Navy Dental Corps. CAPT Hancock is a native of Illiopolis,Il. He enlisted in the Navy in 1982 and served aboard the USS Ohio (Blue) after graduating as the honor graduate from Navy nuclear power school. He earned his Engineering BS in 1990 from the United States Naval Academy. He completed a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1995 from Uniform Services University of Health Sciences. While completing the family medicine residency at Naval Hospital Pensacola, he also met the requirements to be winged as a Naval Flight Surgeon.

Master Chief James was born on April 15, 1967 in Bronx, New York. After graduating high school in 1985 he reported to recruit training in Aug 1987 in San Diego, California.
