Principal Investigator: Hugh M. McIlroy Jr.

Hugh McIlroyHugh McIlroy graduated from Purdue University in February, 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering while on active duty in the U. S. Navy (through the Naval Enlisted Scientific Education Program).  Upon graduation he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Marines and served continuously as a Marine Officer until his retirement from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel of Marines in August 1993.  While on active duty in the U. S. Marine Corps, he earned a Master of Military Arts and Sciences degree from the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in June 1986 and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the College of Naval Warfare at Newport, Rhode Island in May 1990.  He enrolled in the University of Idaho College Of Graduate Studies in August 1996 and graduated with a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in May 2000 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Mechanical Engineering in December of 2004.  Dr. McIlroy served as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the Matched-Index-of-Refraction Flow Facility from March 2005 until April 2008. He has served as the Principal Investigator of the facility since April 2008. The author is a native of Allen Park, Michigan and now resides with his wife, Gerry, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
