State Agencies Kansas
The
Kansas HIV Prevention Education Program maintains a collaborative
relationship with the state and local health departments, local school
districts, colleges and universities, community-based organizations, and
other partners to ensure that effective HIV/AIDS prevention education is
provided to Kansas’ youth. Kansas receives funding from CDC’s Division of
Adolescent and School Health to provide HIV prevention education, and
conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS).
Kansas' Program In Action
Providing HIV
Prevention Education
- Coordinating a HIV/AIDS/STD and Human Sexuality annual conference in
collaboration with HIV prevention education programs in neighboring
states to enhance regional professional development opportunities.
- Providing training for staff working with students in juvenile
justice facilities and Native American students on strengthening and
expanding HIV prevention education programs that are specific to the
needs of their students.
- Disseminating information on HIV/STD prevention and human sexuality
education to teachers and school nurses in Kansas.
Conducting the Youth Risk Behavior Survey
- Educating and training school districts on the importance of the
YRBS survey and the data it provides.
- Distributing YRBS booklets and providing conference presentations on
the statewide results of the YRBS to all Kansas school districts.
- Collaborating with the Kansas Tobacco Prevention Program to jointly
administer the YRBS and Youth Tobacco Survey.
