Ginny Simmons - Former Managing Editor for Energy.gov, Office of Public Affairs

Ginny Simmons

As the former Managing Editor for Energy.gov, out of the Office of Public Affairs, Ginny Simmons oversaw online content and interactive programming for the Energy Department. Previously, Ginny served as the ONE Campaign's Deputy Director of New Media and oversaw ONE.org's U.S. website, online campaigns, social media and online outreach. In 2005, Ginny created the first blog written by a death row inmate, an online innovation that generated national and international attention to questions of innocence in the case. From 2003-2006, Ginny served on the board for Amnesty International's Program to Abolish the Death Penalty. She has also worked at M+R Strategic Services, the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, as a fellow at the D.C. Public Defender Service and for Senator Russ Feingold. Ginny graduated from Georgetown University where she studied government and anthropology and where she helped create a fictitious type of cheese (xanadu), which still circulates as real throughout the Internet. Ginny was born on U.S. soil in West Germany and was raised in Durham, New Hampshire.
