NOAA Central Library Video Lab

The NOAA Central Library Video Lab is available to all NOAA scientists for their business related media work, including digital video viewing, editing, converting, and duplicating. A request for the Video Lab access should be arranged with the Video Project Manager or Media Librarian who will reserve the room and the time. The Media Librarian will also provide the NOAA user with basic directions on how to use the Video Lab and the equipment.

In the Video Lab, there are two G5 Macintosh computers, each with Final Cut Pro Studio 5, Microsoft Office 2007, and Internet access, via Safari and Mozilla browsers. The Library Video Lab equipment also includes: Sony GV-D1000 clamshell recorders, for MiniDV tapes; Sony GV-HD700 clamshell recorders to be used with the HD MiniDV tapes; Sony DVCAM recorder/reader for both DVCAM and MiniDV tapes; Panasonic DVCPro50 tapes reader; and Sony VHS recorder/player. The Epson color printer accepts print jobs from both computers.

All needed manuals and tutorials are available in the Video Lab. Some blank media (DVDs, MiniDVs) may be available, although the user is expected to replace them.

The NOAA Central Library Video Lab was developed in 2007 to support the OER/IPT Video Data Management System (VDMS) project.

To learn more about the Video Lab, you may download a PowerPoint Presentation demonstrating the video lab in action, or the Video Lab Brochure (.pdf).
