Office of Communication, Education, and Radiation Programs

We are the Office of Communication, Education, and Radiation Programs.  Our mission is to collaboratively support the Center and Agency in assuring the safety and effectiveness of medical devices and radiation-emitting electronic products.  We accomplish this by effectively communicating risk messages, educating internal and external stakeholders, assuring high quality mammography, and reducing unnecessary radiation exposure.

We serve and collaborate with the public, health care community, industry, and domestic and foreign governments to improve health outcomes through:

  • communicating risk and benefit information about medical devices and radiation-emitting electronic products to the public
  • educating manufacturers of medical devices and radiation-emitting electronic products about FDA regulations and policies
  • collaborating with U.S. and foreign governments to assure the distribution of safe and effective medical devices and radiation-emitting electronic products
  • educating CDRH employees in support of CDRH’s mission
  • management of the CDRH Radiological Health program, including the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA)
  • responding to public requests for information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
