12/7/2011 - Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. -- Have you recently earned a promotion, returned from a deployment, achieved a significant accomplishment within your job, or have something else military-related to be proud of? If so, you can now share your news with your hometown in a quicker, more efficient manner.
The 403rd Wing's Public Affairs office just brought the newest version of the Department of Defense's Joint Hometown News Service Program news release submission form online. No more downloading, no more messy handwriting the PA office can't read ... it's electronic. The new Web-based, interactive release provides a user-friendly form to decrease the amount of time needed to fill-out and submit your accomplishments.
The JHNSP is a military organization under the Defense Media Activity whose mission is the tell the story of all who serve their country - military and civilian. Established during the Korean War to provide newspaper editors with a consistent product, the organization consolidates efforts of public affairs offices world-wide in order to showcase your service to your hometown media.
Whether you've just won an award within your unit, or completed the Air Force Marathon, the Hometown News Service program allows you to share your accomplishment with your hometown. Parents, grandparents, family friends, and former teachers would enjoy seeing what you've done, give them something to brag about.
Once you fill out the secure Web form, the 403rd WG Public Affairs office will review the final submission for accuracy and authenticity, and then forward the submission to the DoD's Joint Hometown News Release department, based in Ft. Meade, Md. The Joint Hometown News Release Service will review it and put the information you provided on the electronic form into a news release to be distributed to civilian print and Web publications in your hometown. Whether or not the release goes to print, is the decision of the civilian publication's editorial staff.
