Our Mission: To exercise command and control and fiscal oversight over subordinate commands assigned; to oversee the economical and effective delivery of medical, dental, and other health care services provided by the health care facilities in our area of responsibility; to coordinate medical and dental personnel support to the full spectrum of Navy and Marine Corps combat and contingency operations as directed by the Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery; and to ensure planning and preparation for disaster and contingency support within the region.

In August 2005, Navy Medicine implemented a realignment effort to better direct the collective shore-based assets of Navy Medicine to maintain readiness and deliver the highest quality care in the most cost effective manner. This effort resulted in the standing up of four Echelon 3 (Flag level) commands - Navy Medicine West, Navy Medicine East, Navy Medicine National Capital Area and Navy Medicine Support Command. Subordinate commands under Navy Medicine East include all Navy Medical Treatment Facilities on the East Coast, Gulf Coast , Great Lakes and in Europe, except the National Capital Area.
