Kadena Airman dies during commercial flight


4/2/2012 - KADENA AIR BASE, Japan (AFNS) -- An Airman assigned to Kadena Air Base died Sunday during a commercial flight from Tokyo to Dallas-Fort Worth.

Capt. Tomas C. Hernandez of the 18th Aerospace Medicine Squadron was found unresponsive during the flight and pronounced dead by medical authorities after the aircraft landed at Dallas-Fort Worth airport.

"Captain Hernandez was a wonderful, caring and compassionate professional," said Col. Richard Baker, 18th Aerospace Medicine Squadron commander. "The Flight Medicine Clinic, the Medical Group, and Kadena Air Base at large are diminished by his passing. We want to extend our deepest sympathies and prayers for his family at this difficult time. He is sorely missed."

The cause of death is under investigation.
