Authorizing Legislation
The total National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) budget authority
is provided by two pieces of authorizing legislation. The first authorizes research
and investigation (citations: Section 301 of the Public Health Service Act and
42'241 of the U.S. Code) and the second authorizes the NHLBI (citations: Section
402(a) of the Public Health Service Act and 42'281 of the U.S. Code). The FY
2009 estimated amount is $3,015,689,000 and the FY 2010 projected budget is $3,050,356,000.
