Thomas Dougherty of Wyoming, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor, is the new U.S. Ambassador to Burkina Faso. Ambassador Dougherty was nominated by President Obama on May 27, 2010 and confirmed by Congress on August 5, 2010.
Ambassador Dougherty previously served as Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, as acting Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs, and Director for West African Affairs. He was Deputy Chief of Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in Malawi. Other overseas posts include Cameroon, Germany, Eritrea, the Republic of the Congo, Saudi Arabia, and Senegal.
