Mary Burce Warlick was confirmed by the United States Senate on December 24, 2009 and sworn into office on January 19, 2010 as the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Serbia. She arrived in Belgrade on January 22 and presented her credentials to President Boris Tadic on January 28, 2010.

A career member of the United States Foreign Service since 1983, Ambassador Warlick served as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy and Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Policy until May 2009. She served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Russia at the National Security Council from 2007 to 2008 and as Director of the State Department’s Office of Russian Affairs from 2004 to 2007.

Ambassador Warlick was previously assigned as Minister-Counselor for Economic Affairs in Moscow (2001-2004), Global Affairs Counselor in Bonn, Germany (1994-1998), and Economic Officer in Manila, Philippines (1988-1990) and Dhaka, Bangladesh (1986-1988). She has also served in Washington, D.C., as Office Director for Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus Affairs (1998-2000), Senior Watch Officer in the State Department's Operations Center (1992-1993), and Economic Officer in the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs (1990-1992).

Ambassador Warlick holds a B.A. from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana and an M.A. from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. In 2006, she received the Secretary of State’s Award for Public Outreach.
