U.S. Attorney Robert E. O'Neill

On October 5, 2010, Robert E. O'Neill became the twentieth United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. A native of the Bronx, New York, he has been a resident of Florida for over 20 years. Throughout most of his professional career, Mr. O'Neill has served as a criminal prosecutor.

Mr. O'Neill previously served as the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida from 2007 to 2008. In addition to his prior service as United States Attorney, he has held most of the other senior leadership positions within the Office, including: First Assistant United States Attorney; Chief of the Criminal Division; and Chief of the Special Prosecution Section. Mr. O'Neill also has served with distinction elsewhere within the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and in the Office of the Independent Counsel. He served as Deputy Chief in Charge of Litigation, Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Section, U.S. Department of Justice, and as an Associate Independent Counsel, on two separate occasions.

During his early career as a prosecutor, Mr. O'Neill served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of Florida. He also practiced as a trial lawyer for approximately two years in the New York law firm of Kramer, Dillof, Tessel, Duffy & Moore.

Mr. O'Neill graduated from Fordham University, Bronx, New York (magna cum laude) and New York Law School (cum laude). He has been recognized for his leadership and trial work numerous times throughout his career, including most recently by his induction into the American College of Trial Lawyers.
