Finding Landmines
Introduction
INL researchers, working with the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center, Carnegie Mellon University, Night Vision Laboratories and the Space and Naval Warfare Command, have developed portable, low-cost autonomous robots that identify and mark buried landmines. The application of RIK to countermine operations has been demonstrated and rigorously evaluated by the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command as well as by the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center and the Engineer School at Ft. Leonard-Wood in Missouri.
Various types of robots were employed by the INL in countermine operations for finding buried mines(top) and marking mine-free safe lanes.
