About the Office
The United States Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania was created by an Act of Congress dated March 2, 1901, which a new federal judicial district comprised of counties formerly in the eastern and western judicial districts of the Commonwealth, and also created the United States District Court, the offices of the Unites States Marshal, the Marshal's deputies, the Court Clerk and assistant clerks. The Act provided that the first session of the Court of the Middle District was to be held in Harrisburg on the first Monday of May (May 6, 1901).

The Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of three offices:
The Scranton Office
The United States Attorney's Office located in the Federal Courthouse in Scranton currently has a staff of approximately 30 people, including the main administrative office (AO) and the financial litigation unit (FLU). The Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) represent the United States before five United States District Judges and two United States Magistrate Judges who sit in the Federal Courthouses in Scranton and in Wilkes-Barre.

The Harrisburg Office staff currently numbers approximately 40 people. The AUSAs represent the United States before five United States District Judges and two United States Magistrate Judges who sit in the Federal Courthouse in Harrisburg.

The Williamsport Office
The Williamsport Office consists of a staff of eight. The AUSAs represent the United States before a United States District Judge and one United States Magistrate Judge who sit in the Federal Courthouse in Williamsport, as well as Judges from other parts of the District who have cases in Williamsport.
