About our office

Mission Statement

The United States Attorney is the chief federal law enforcement officer in the federal judicial district for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. United States Attorneys are appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the United States Senate, and serve at the pleasure of the President and Attorney General of the United States.

The office represents the United States in the Middle District of Pennsylvania in:

  • Prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal government;
  • Civil cases in which the United States is a party; and
  • Collection of debts owed to the Federal government.

The office works closely with federal law enforcement agencies, administrative agencies, and other divisions and elements of the United States Department of Justice. The office engages in joint efforts with state and local law enforcement agencies and community and business organizations on training and crime prevention programs.
