The new 18-bed acute care hospital will serve the Alaska Natives in the Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC) service area in and around Nome, Alaska, and will be approximately 14,900 gross square meters. Design was funded by the Denali Commission and was completed by the NSHC in February of 2009. The IHS awarded a direct federal construction contract in August 2009 utilizing funding received from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The NSHC in partnership with the IHS is providing construction administration assistance to the IHS under a Title-V P.L. 93-638 construction project agreement, and will also provide the equipment, artwork, and off-site utilities for the new facility. The new hospital is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2012. The ARRA provided $142.5 million for this project. The total project cost is between $145 to $195 million.
