Getting a car into victory lane, takes more than a driver, a crew chief and a few engineers.

Getting a car into victory lane, takes more than a driver, a crew chief and a few engineers. Everyone at Stewart Haas Racing who touches the number 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet makes a difference. Whether they are making parts for the engine, or making marketing plans, their role and dedication is paramount to the overall strength of the team. Let's go meet some of them.
I'm Andrew Turner, I'm the jack man for the 39 car, in my day to day jobs I work in the C and C shops here. In the machine shop here, we can do anything from alter parts that are already made to making complete parts from scratch and modify them pretty much in any way that we want. And, we can also on either one part or you can fifty parts fairly easy. We can make anything from a brake pedal from scratch or alter one that has already been made, or we can make spindles, just about any part that goes on the car.
My name is James Houk, rear tire carrier for the 39 Army Chevrolet. In the Fab shop we get the cars bare, after a bare body it gets all the fenders put on it. It comes to us, and we make the crush panels, but during a crash, crush panels will fall in as the body gets damaged and that way the chassis itself won't get as much damage to it.
My Name is Jeff Kuhn, I'm one of the painters at Stewart Haas. We actually take the cars from the finish Fab, paint the chasse's once we get the chasse's done on them, do the final mud work, get them Primed and Painted, and then they'll come back out assembly, where they'll put the engines and drive chain in them, we'll decal them, and then go to the track, and hopefully win a race.
I'm Kirby Boone, I'm the vice president of marketing here at Stewart Haas Racing. Here in the marketing department we oversee and work with all of our sponsors. It's not just putting the name on the side of the car, there is a whole lot of work that goes on behind the scenes. For instance, with U.S. Army we have a very expansive show car program, that travels the country that goes from high schools, comes to the race tracks, does other special events for the U.S. Army. We oversee all of those things specifically for the Army. The Marketing department also works with the Competition department, in terms of just what our cars look like every week, from the changes in designs that we may have, to the change from one sponsor to another. We work with the competition department to make sure that the cars look right, from week to week.
So you see, the success of the number 39 car this year will be built on teamwork, just like every U.S. Army soldier, everyone we just met and everyone else who is a part of the U.S. Army racing team, has a specific role and must perform to complete the mission of reaching victory lane.
