Commerce Secretary Gary Locke Completes First Leg of Clean Energy Business Development Mission

HONG KONG – U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and a delegation of 24 American companies completed the first leg of their trade mission in Hong Kong today.  The clean energy business development mission aims to promote U.S. technologies related to clean energy, energy efficiency, and electric energy storage, transmission and distribution in Asia.  

Locke issued the following statement on departure:

“Promoting American exports, particularly here in Asia, will create more jobs in America while improving the lives of people around the world and introducing new products and services to local communities. Our meetings in Hong Kong helped generate additional business opportunities for American firms.

“The companies on this trade mission are at the vanguard of a movement to meet the world’s clean energy needs. As they grow their global presence, they can help solve unprecedented energy and environmental challenges, while creating good-paying jobs for Americans and people around the globe. That’s a win for everyone involved.”

The mission will continue through May 26 and make additional stops in Shanghai and Beijing, China; and Jakarta, Indonesia. This is Locke’s first trade mission as Commerce Secretary and the administration’s first trade mission led by a Cabinet-level official.
