AFMC senior leaders get flu shots
Lt. Gen. Andrew Busch, Air Force Materiel Command vice commander, receives a flu shot Sept. 17 while Dr. Steve Butler, AFMC executive director, waits in line to receive his vaccine. The two AFMC senior leaders gathered for their shots to emphasize the importance of the flu shot and help spread the word that AFMC civilians will be offered the vaccine in the coming weeks. Busch’s shot was administered by Senior Airman Kayla Ford of the 88th Medical Group. (U.S. Air Force photo/Ben Strasser)

9/17/2012 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- For the second year in a row, Air Force Materiel Command will make the influenza (flu) vaccine available to its civilian workforce. This is in addition to the flu vaccine for military and TRICARE beneficiaries.

There is a limited quantity of the flu vaccine purchased for the AFMC Civilian Workforce Flu Immunization Program. The vaccine will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to all government civilian workers. As a reminder, the flu vaccine remains mandatory for military personnel.

Being immunized can help protect you, as well as your family and co-workers, from getting the flu. While the severity and timing of the annual flu outbreak can be unpredictable, getting immunized early will provide protection for the entire season.

The best way to prevent influenza is to get a flu shot this fall. Convenient shot-line locations and times will be announced soon through your local Military Treatment Facility.
