A number of programs are available to help state governments and organizations finance energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. For more information, visit the following Web sites:

  • State Energy Program

The State Energy Program (SEP) provides grants to states and directs funding to state energy offices from technology programs in the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. For more information about current SEP projects, see SEP project descriptions organized by state. States use these grants to address their energy priorities and program funding to deploy emerging renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. See the SEP guidance documents for state energy offices for more information about receiving these grants.

  • Smart Communities Network

This site has information to help communities design and implement innovative strategies that enhance the local economy as well as the local environment and quality of life. Initiatives and financial opportunities, including grants and other funding, are described here.
