ENERGY STAR National Campaigns

Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR

Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR is a national campaign from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) encouraging all Americans to join with millions of others in taking small steps that make a big difference in the fight against global warming. The campaign focuses on changes individuals can make at home, at work, and in their communities with ENERGY STAR qualified products and energy-efficient practices that will save energy, save money, and help protect the environment. The cornerstone of the Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR campaign is the ENERGY STAR Pledge.

In 2009, EPA is making a special effort to reach youth, ages 8-15. Through new, strategic partnerships with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and PTO Today, EPA will bring the proven success of the Change the World, Start with ENERGY STAR campaign and the ENERGY STAR Pledge to this influential tween and teen audience while continuing to encourage all Americans to join the national movement toward energy efficiency with ENERGY STAR.

ENERGY STAR PSA Campaign

EPA’s public service campaign promotes ENERGY STAR as an important part of the solution to climate change. The public service announcements (PSAs) for print and TV feature ordinary individuals who represent the growing number of Americans turning to ENERGY STAR to help save energy, save money, and protect the environment for future generations. Print and video PSAs for both kids and adults are available for download.

ENERGY STAR Make a Cool Change Campaign

U.S. households have 44.5 million fridges over 10 years old, 12.7 million of which are secondary units, often in basements and garages. And almost a quarter of these fridges are at least 20 years old! Fridges made before 1993 use more than twice the energy of a new ENERGY STAR qualified model. The ENERGY STAR Make a Cool Change: Recycle Your Old Fridge (or Freezer) Campaign, brought to you by the U.S. Department of Energy, encourages every American who owns an old, inefficient refrigerator or freezer to take another step — to save money, energy and the environment by properly recycling that old fridge or freezer. And if a replacement is needed, you can save when you buy a new ENERGY STAR qualified model.

ENERGY STAR Challenge — Build a Better World 10% at a Time

Announced in March 2005, EPA’s ENERGY STAR Challenge is a call-to-action for America’s building owners to improve energy efficiency across their entire building portfolios. The first step is to become an ENERGY STAR partner and generate a rating for your buildings using EPA’s national energy performance rating system. This rating acts as a baseline against which you can measure your energy improvements. Building owners that make improvements of 10%, 20%, 30% or more, or have a building portfolio rating of 75 or better earn special recognition as ENERGY STAR Leaders. In addition to building owners, states and associations play a central role in the ENERGY STAR Challenge by promoting energy efficiency to their members and constituents.

Low Carbon IT Campaign

The ENERGY STAR Low Carbon IT Campaign is a nationwide effort to assist and recognize organizations for reducing the energy consumed by their computers and monitors. Saving energy reduces air pollution associated with the burning of fossil fuels, and ultimately lowers the risk of global warming. Join by taking the Low Carbon IT pledge.
