Director
William Craig Rice
William Craig Rice is the Director of the Division of Education Programs. Before coming to NEH in 2007, Bill served as the president of Shimer College, a college dedicated to the study of the great books. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, where he won the Hopwood Writing Award and the Brubacher Prize in the History and Philosophy of Education, and taught expository writing for many years at Harvard. He is the author of Public Discourse and Academic Inquiry (1996).
