Name: Peter Wells

Briefly describe the types of volunteer activities you participate in for the NERRS. If you have a favorite volunteer topic or activity, please describe.
I work with the coastal data analysis program, a volunteer effort to develop high-speed data and statistical analysis of the NERR's monitoring data, and to develop coastal oceanographic data relationships between water quality, metrological, and nutrient data. The infomration from this work is made available to the Waquoit Bay NERR staff, scientists at large, the Woods Hole scientific community, and visiting researchers at Reserve.

I also volunteer with Waquoit Bay NERR’s BayWatchers, CoastWatchers, fish and horseshoe crab count data collection efforts. I am also starting a research project on sediment transport on three of the Reserve’s beaches. All of my efforts are under the direction of Chris Weidman, the Reserve’s research coordinator.

What life experiences led you to volunteer with the NERRS?
I like to keep busy and solve problems.

What is the most unusual or most unexpected thing that has happened to you while volunteering for the NERRS?
How much fun I’m having at WBNERR – the staff is great.

What is your proudest achievement as a volunteer?
My data and statistical analysis efforts – I’m learning a lot too.
