Rep. Erik Paulsen (MN-03), Acting Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Human Resources, took to the floor in support of a resolution of disapproval of the Health and Human Services (HHS) misguided attempt to undermine the welfare work requirements.

The vote was 250 to 164, with 19 Democrats joining 231 Republicans in rejecting the HHS's attempts to circumvent Congress and undermine the critical work requirements for welfare recipients.

  • Amazing hypocrisy. Here is the letter from the Republican Governors Association in 2005, signed by Mitt Romney, asking for exactly this flexibility for states. Paulsen is playing games, along with the Romney campaign, to create an issue about welfare reform that is nothing but political posturing.
