Endangered Species Program

More than three decades ago, the Congress created the Endangered Species Act.  It set an ambitious goal: to reverse the alarming trend of human-caused extinctions that threaten the ecosystems we all share. Since its enactment, the Fish and Wildlife Service in partnership with private landowners, community organizations, businesses, academia, conservation groups, and federal, state, and local government agencies has made important contributions to the conservation and recovery of endangered and threatened pollinators and pollinator-dependent plants.

The conservation of candidate and at-risk species of pollinators and pollinator-dependent plants is equally important.  Early conservation to avoid the need to list species is a far more economical and practical approach to protecting our nation’s biological heritage.
