Dennis Leber

Dennis Leber joined the Statistical Engineering Division at NIST in January 2002, after five years in the Actuarial Research Department of Prudential Property and Casualty Insurance Company in Holmdel, NJ. Dennis received a B.S. degree in mathematics from Bloomsburg University in 1997, a M.S. degree in statistics from Rutgers University in 1999, a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2007, and is currently working towards a Ph.D. degree in the Design, Risk Analysis and Manufacturing division of the Mechanical Engineering department at the University of Maryland. His academic interests include decision making and process modeling and simulation of discrete event systems.

Over the past several years, Dennis has been a key collaborator of scientific and technical staff of NIST’s Ionizing Radiation Physics Division, and the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, in the design of radiation detection experiments and in the modeling and analysis of the resulting data. Other ongoing collaborations, with researchers in NIST’s Office of Law Enforcement Standards (OLES), include studies of performance of ballistic body armor, and the advancement of measurement science for imaging equipment used by firefighters and other emergency personnel.
