National Capital Parks East

The Frederick Douglass National Historic Site is a site within National Capital Parks East, which in turn is part of the National Park Service's National Capital Region.

The superintendent of NACE is Alex Romero.

The district manager for the Frederick Douglass NHS is Julie Kutruff.

Beyond the Capital is a visitors guide to the parks of NACE.

The Superintendents Compendium is a detailed set of rules for National Capital Parks East. Whether your question is about boating, smoking, driving, hunting, picnicking, hosting an event, or just about anything else, the Compendium is your first stop for an answer.

Long Range Interpretive Plan

Frederick Douglass NHS's LRIP is how we plan to tell Douglass' story. In it we lay out what programs we would like to develop, what projects we would like to undertake, and how we plan to teach about Douglass for the next several years. If you would like to know what we are planning, the LRIP is a good place to start.

Did You Know?

The Growlery

At the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site in Washington, D.C. you can see a reconstruction of Frederick Douglass' "Growlery."  It was a one room building with a stove, bed, and desk where Douglass could retreat to work and "growl" when he was in the mood.
