Scientists, Officials to Examine Copenhagen IssuesNational Science Foundation (NSF) Director Rita Colwell will join the President's science advisor, John Marburger, and renowned scientists and authors at a symposium March 2 examining the World War II-era collaboration of eminent physicists Werner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr. The symposium will also explore the conjunction of science and theater. The symposium at the National Museum of Natural History is supported by NSF and the Department of Energy in conjunction with Michael Frayn's play "Copenhagen" at the Kennedy Center. The play explores the 1941 meeting in Denmark between Bohr and Heisenberg (leader of the Nazi nuclear program) and that meeting's influence on the nuclear age.
