Shooting a Bullet in Space

Defending the US against inter-continental ballistic missile threats requires constant communication with sensors in the defense architecture-both on the ground and orbiting above in space. As a Soldier, this would be your job.

I'm Captain Dennis Clancey; I'm current Operations Officer, I work with US Army Space and Mission Defense Command.
We have 5-man crews that are responsible collectively for defending the United States and it's allies against intercontinental ballistic missile threats. As a current Operations Officer, I coordinate with all the sensors that are in our defense architecture and I provide recommendations to my director as to how those sensors impact the fight.
We're entrusted with a lot of responsibility. It's a great opportunity for people that are looking for challenges to step up to those challenges and provide a mission to the United States that's very critical.
I feel like I'm protecting my family and friends. I feel like they can sleep a little better knowing that we have crews here defending the United States against uncertain threats.
The thing that's very exciting about our job is that we're exposed to a lot of cutting edge technology and we're using that technology to defend the United States. Even though the missile defense crews are here in the United States, we still feel like we're part of the greater defense of our country. It's like shooting a bullet with a bullet and we can do it. If they shoot it we'll shoot it down.
