Gloveboxes

Waste Form GloveboxThere are six air and inert atmosphere gloveboxes in the NMCD.  Different gloveboxes, like the hot cells, are used for different purposes.  Few are plutonium-qualified air atmosphere boxes. The thermal properties glovebox houses a laser flash thermal diffusivity instrument, digital scanning calorimeter, and a thermal gravimetric analyzer.  Samples can be tested for their heat capacities, transition heats and temperatures, thermal diffusivity, and any mass loss or gain. The waste form glovebox is used for sample preparation for a large variety of analytical methods. It also contains the necessary equipment for performing immersion density measurements and carbon/sulfur analysis. The alpha glovebox is mostly reserved for dissolving and preparing samples with high alpha activity.
